AHRI certificates in HVAC submittals

When a spec asks for performance rated or certified to an AHRI standard, a catalog table is often not enough. The reviewer wants the certificate for the exact model or matched system.

What to check

• The certificate matches the exact model number being submitted, or the exact indoor and outdoor combination for split systems.
• The rated values on the certificate meet the spec and the equipment schedule.
• The standard on the certificate is the one the spec cites, or a newer edition of it.

Common problems

• Catalog ratings at non-standard conditions compared against a spec that asks for certified ratings.
• A certificate for a different coil, furnace or option combination than the one submitted.
• Sound ratings quoted without the standard they were measured to.
